Along the way they amassed many treasures and cases of spiced rum from the ships that they pillaged. After pillaging they would then sail back up to Bay Harbor with there loot hiding it on the shores of the Harbor, in due time Bay Harbor became Bar Harbor as many socialites and members of high society were starting to sail the area. Captain Foro being a rather smart pirate knew it was time to move his crew and loot to another area. here to add text.
He decided on The Shores of an area that had many Apple Orchards and miles of beautiful beach, (Now known as Old Orchard Beach)The Apple Orchards would provide them with thick cover behind them to avoid a sneak attack from behind, the ocean allowed them a great view of any ships approaching or going by. It was some time around 1769 that a ship carrying gold coins and jewelry from The Carolinas went down about a mile off shore from where the pirates made camp. Only one person survived. The lone survivor washed ashore (where The Carolina Motel now sits)
This lone survivor had managed to grab the gold coins and jewelry pouches from the safe before the ship went down. Seeing the pirates and fearing for his life he offered the gold coins and jewelry to Captain Foro, who immediately ordered that it be buried it with the rest of his loot. The treasure is rumored to be under the pool next to the motel to this day.  Captain Foro had great respect for the lone survivor. The survivors name was Antonio Josepee Fudgeagaloop soon they were thick as thieves. They began pillaging up and down the coast. After a while Captain Foro made Antonio his new First Mate. It is said you can still see them roaming the Pier and streets of Old Orchard late nights to this very day. First Mate Antonio had heard there were many ships loaded with riches departing from Newfoundland, he told this to the Captain. The Captain then ordered the crew to ready the boat to sail to Newfoundland, as they were off the coast of Newfoundland a big boat could be seen in the distance, they sailed toward the vessel boarded it and stole all of its riches. The boat was full of gold coin, jewelry and more importantly case after case of spiced rum, they over loaded the Widow Maker weighing it down terribly, as they started to leave Newfoundland a great storm was forming, that storm is now known as the Newfoundland Hurricane of 1775. A considerable number of boats and their crews had been totally lost, several vessels wrecked on the shore. Ocean levels rose to heights scarcely ever seen before and caused great devastation. Well as you could imagine the pirates had been hitting the rum pretty hard and not in the best shape to sail through the storm, with the wind at there backs heading home seas were astronomically high. They were almost back to there camp on shore when they hit a rock rolling the boat on its side causing all on board to be sent to Davey Jones Locker. The next morning when the sun rose the Widow Maker was grounded on the shore right where it sits today. Several attempts were made to move “The WidowMaker” each attempt failed. Hundreds of years later it was decided to turn it into the “Pirates Patio and Galley”. Seems Captain Foro doesn’t want anyone but him commanding his boat. Rumor has it if you are inside late at night you can here someone walking on the roof (which back then was the boats deck) there are also reports of a lone lantern from the roof of the building said to be held by Captain Foro. If you are on The Pier look about a half mile north on the shoreline for Captain Foro’s Lantern. It’s said that every time the moon is bright you can see Captain Foro’s shadow in the sand looking over at The Carolina Motels pool, they say under that pool is Captains Foro’s buried treasure. When you are out at sea or in the Patio stay sharp and keep your wits about you. If you look up on the roof and the lantern is on The Captain is on deck looking for a new crew to guard his treasure!

The Legend Of Pirates Patio

ClickMany people have asked how The Boat “Widow Maker” (now Pirates Patio & Galley) got to where it is this very day they also wonder how it became the Pirates Patio & Galley. Long, long ago in the mid 1700s there was a wild pirate named Captain Foro he use to frequent many of the local pubs up and down the shipping villages on the New England coast, that’s where he assembled a crew, a kind of unique band of men. They set up camp in a harbor called Bay Harbor. They would sail his ship the Widow Maker down to Boston where they would pillage the boats around what is now The Lewis Warf Area, eventually pillaging further south to an area now known as The SeaPort.
